AIR TREATMENT WITH OZONE - APPLICATIONS
OZONE IN THE CONDITIONED AIR
For everybody is known that breathing is a process of slow combustion, that takes place inside the organism and it originates, like the ordinary combustions, carbonic anhydride (CO 2 ) and water steam (H 2 O).
In atmospheres closed and inhabited the air is saturated quickly of carbonic acid, until sometimes you can not breath in a correct way; but the most detrimental is the exhalation of organic substances of diverse nature, that can produce aches, even serious, in some of the present people.
It is therefore necessary and very important to extract the vitiated air of an atmosphere and to replace it by pure air taken from the outside.
In the places of common coexistence, although there are not special devices of ventilation, it is admitted that through the cracks of the windows, the walls and the doors, that never close hermetically, there is a spontaneous renovation of 0.5 times the volume of the local for each hour. For this reason, in houses which have been constructed according to the urban regulations, it can get a pleasant permanence without the adoption of ventilation, which is necessary however, when there are causes for an excessive increase of the temperature or the hygrometric degree, or when the air is contaminated by the presence of many people in relation to the occupied space.
When the renovation of the pure air and the extraction of the vitiated one take place on by the use of constructed conduits, the ventilation is denominated artificial. It can be made by effect of the temperature difference or by means of shot chimneys or by average mechanics. This last system can take place by aspiration, impulsion or both at the same time.
The air conditioning is used for the automatic stabilization and maintenance in the installations related to its temperature, degree of humidity, purity and speed, with an absolute independence in the conditions of the outer air.

During the winter, the air warms up or dries properly by means of suitable devices, so it is maintained it in the wished heat and humidity levels; during the summer the air is cool the when is necessary, or by means of cold water or with refrigerating facilities.
The facilities of air conditioning in the places demand a careful and detailed study of calories to produce in winter and to eliminate in summer, as well as the amount of air to introduce and its humidity degree to maintain.
Talking about conditioned air, it is said comfort or necessity.
Comfort, because we are going to provide an ideal temperature and humidity degree during the four stations of the year and to contribute the number of enough air renovations, in order not to become scarce by the strange agents which take place in the places, as smoke, tars of the tobacco, sweating of people, etc.
But, who can make an investment in an air conditioner to obtain the previously mentioned? Few people and fewer when we talk about big places like offices, markets, bars, cafes, theatres, etc.
So, why is it not possible to make this type of facilities?
Because prepare of air all the volume of the place, it would suppose to have to install at least four or five times more powerful heat or cold equipment, and that, nowadays, we think that it is practically impossible in most of the cases, because of its cost.
Then, what can we do?
We can regenerate the air we have, by a recirculation or an air renovation by means of the incorporation of suitable filters that can retain great part of solid substances (dust). This system improves enough the air that we contribute.
But, what happens with other substances that filters do not retain?
These ones carry on circulating in the atmosphere and being multiplied (bacteria, germs, virus, etc.) so step by step it arrives a moment while the atmosphere becomes irrespirable, and it is there when windows are opened to be able to contribute a little new air. When this happens, if it is winter, the temperature decreases and if it is summer, the opposite happens. So it is at this moment when you think that the installation of the air conditioning is not enough.
It has already happened that an installation of air conditioning or climatic equipment is not used because it can enter disgusting scents in the facilities through the air of the outside and even gases which are detriment for health. These are especially dangerous in indoor plants situated in streets with much traffic.
It is not indeed that these are insufficient, but the costs do not allow making air conditioner in better conditions.
What we can do then, is to improve the actual facilities.
How?
Reaching the oxygen in the air, since this one is being extinguished in its oxidizing mission.
This way is cheaper because it is produced because of a transformation of the electricity from 125/220 V to 500 V. and a decreasing in the intensity, so the consumption obtained is despicable. This method is the same one as the electrical spark of storms which produces the ozone by a natural process.
The ozone production by artificial process, takes place by means of ozone generators or ozonizers. Thanks to the regulation of this one, can be dosed the enough ozone, according to the type of atmosphere that more or less is rarefied.
The international norms of ozone concentration in the air, to maintain an atmosphere in perfect hygienic conditions, are those to have an ozone residual of 0.2 mg/m 3 or of 0.1 p.p.m./v.
